The Amara West Research Project, based at the British Museum is currently looking for an experienced bioarchaeologist to join the fieldwork in the New Kingdom and post-New Kingdom cemeteries (1300-800BC) at Amara West, Sudan. The field season will take place 2. 01. - 25. 02. 2013.
The person will be responsible for excavation, recording and documentation of tombs, human remains and all associated architectural structures. A good record of excavating cemetery sites as well as a thorough knowledge of bioarchaeological methods is required. On occasion, the person will also be expected to supervise a team of 2-5 local work men. Knowledge of Arabic is not a requirement.
Accommodation will be basic and provided in a mudbrick house in a village on Ernetta Island, with 2-3 people sharing a room, electricity is confined to evening hours, running water is very scarce. Conditions on site can be very demanding with cold night time temperatures, strong winds and very hot temperatures during the day.
Please note that this is an unpaid job. However, all expenses (travel, accommodation, food, medication) will be covered during the time of the project.
